Have you seen some of Eliasson’s work, especially this pavillion in Denmark? He is also looking to nature for inspiration. Beautiful work.

That is an amazing connection Tim that I had not thought of yet. I have seen some of the art of Eliasson in real life, but I am not that familiar with his oeuvre.
I asked his studio for some high-res images of the project you mention. The resemblance to the birdnest of Herzog & de Meuron is absolutely stricking. Do you thing their design is inspired by the artwork of Eliasson? That piece is from 1998, and the design by Herzog & de Meuron is definitely from a later date, 2003 or so.
It would be a strange happening, because developements in art could then be monitored by architects as a possible inspirations for their designs. Architects could flock art galleries! I would love that!
