This photograph fascinates me. On the background you see the Sydney Opera House with its curved roof that is (supposed to) look like ’sails’ and the foreground one of the contestants of the Volvo Ocean Race 2001-2002. In architecture there’s currently a debate going on about whether or not architects should use iconography (-such as ’sails’) in their designs. The Sydney Opera House is not the first building to use iconography, but it is probably the most well known one. It puzzles me: does this look great?
