Lighthouse, by Calatrava
The Fordham Spire in Chicago that is designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava uses an ambiguous iconography. Does it look like a screw, or maybe a birthday-candle?
Personally I tend to see the building using one of the traditional iconographies of skyscrapers that Rem Koolhaas already distinguished in ‘Delirious New York’ - the lighthouse. The position of the building at the ’shore’ of Michigan Lake reinforced that concept.
